In order to better satisfy the demands of overseas Chinese language learners of diverse ages from different countries with varying levels of Chinese proficiency, Hanban carried out reforms to the HSK and YCT tests in 2009. The new HSK and YCT tests put more emphasis on examining students’ capability in applying the Chinese language in their studies, personal lives and workplaces. Trial examinations of both tests were widely recognized and welcomed by overseas Chinese language learners.
The new HSK test consists of six levels of written tests and three levels of oral tests. The oral test is recorded on tape. The March 14 HSK test included all six levels of the written test and for the first time the three-level oral test. The test is scheduled to be held again this year another eight times in April, May, June, July, September, October, November and December.
The New YCT is comprised of four levels of written tests and two levels of oral tests. It is also scheduled in May, June, August, October and November this year.
